John was admitted as a child to Our Lady of Nazareth High School, Bhayandar, from where he completed his schooling. career
Career before making it to the big leagues
After completing his formal education in Hotel Management and Catering, John worked in various renowned hotels in Mumbai like ITC Maratha Sheraton and Hyatt Regency. John was just 23 when he got his first job. He used to work as a receptionist in the hotel and due to this he came in contact with many influential people. Due to his tall and muscular physique, John started getting a lot of offers for modeling and advertising. John decided to quit his job as a receptionist and started working in a well-paying call center at IBM Daksha to save more money, requiring a good amount of money to build a modeling portfolio.

In 2005, John sent his modeling portfolio to Gladrags, a well-known modeling magazine known for hosting megamodel and manhunt contests. John was selected as a contestant for the modeling magazine and also made it to the list of some of the finalists. After his selection at Gladrags, John started getting many offers for ramp walk modeling and even did many commercials for many renowned companies like Cadbury, Bajaj and Chungath Prince Jewellers. Before John got a chance for the first advertisement, he had gone through about 1200 auditions. In an interview, John said,
One of the things I learned as a model in Mumbai was learning to accept rejections gracefully. I would attend around 1200 auditions before I got selected for my first commercial.”
Big ticket to enter the field of films
In 2006, John Cocaine received an offer to do an advertisement in South India, specifically Kerala. While shooting for advertisements there, he came in contact with many well-known South Indian filmmakers and directors and John made his big debut in the Malayalam film Kalabham. After the release of the film Kalabham, John returned to his hometown in Mumbai, where he continued his work in the field of modeling. In 2009, John got another chance to work with famous South Indian actor Mammootty in the film Love in Singapore.
John was given the role of a villain in the film due to his humble height, which he said is more suited to be a villain in films than a ramp walking model. In an interview, John said,
As a model, I was considered too big for the ramp, due to which I could not do many designer shows. But this aspect became my advantage in films because I used to play the bad guy in all the movies and South Indian film industry likes tall and big villains. So here I was, 6.2″ tall and a big muscular man and he took me in his arms. I am extremely grateful to the South Indian film industry for the career and fame that I have today.”
In 2015, John was signed for the famous film, Baahubali: The Beginning. John had a very small role in the film and not many people knew much about John. He was shown as a soldier of the Kalakeya army.
In 2018, John Cocaine got another chance to act as an antagonist in the famous film KGF; Chapter 1.
In 2021, John Cocaine came into limelight for his role as Vembuli, an antagonist in the film Sarpatta Parambrai, a film that revolves around the sport of boxing.
The film’s director, Pa Ranjith, wanted John to be as fierce as possible for the role and asked John to take inspiration from former boxing world champion, Mike Tyson. In an interview, John said,
It was Mike Tyson that director Pa Ranjith asked John Cocaine to take inspiration for the role of Vembuli in Sarpatta Parambrai. “I needed to look like a monster in the ring. I tried to replicate his body language, aggression and fierceness.
John also played one of the three antagonists in the film James. The film was released on 17 March 2022 and John’s performance was highly appreciated by his fans.
