Anjana Mumtaz was a big fan of Meena Kumari. In 1965, he came to know that his favorite actress was shooting for Pakeezah at Filmistan Studio. She did not hesitate even once and went to meet Meenaji, who gave a warm welcome to her fan. He also introduced Anjana to Kamal Sahab, who decided to cast her in his film Shankar Hussain, which got delayed for release. Meanwhile, she was signed with producer S Mukherjee for the film Shubh, in which she debuted in 1969 playing the lead role. The film became a huge hit, marking the beginning of his journey in films. After that, she signed many big films with famous actors including Dharmendraji, Mehmoodji, Sanjeev Kumar and Joy Mukherjee. After that he worked in many Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi films.
