Criticism of Ilhan Umar’s visit to Pakistan

Ilhan Omar is an American Congresswoman. On his four-day visit to Pakistan, he visited the area of Kashmir which is illegally occupied by Pakistan. Ilhan Omar is the first US lawmaker to visit Pakistan after the rebellion. India did not like his decision and he strongly opposed it. His visit to Kashmir was called ‘Narrow Minded Politics’. In the past too, she frequently raised human rights violations in India. At a press meeting in the Ministry of External Affairs, when asked a question regarding his visit, Arindam Bagchi replied,

We have seen that he has visited a part of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir which is currently under illegal occupation of Pakistan. If such a politician wants to do his narrow minded politics at home, it may be his business, but for this violating our territorial integrity and sovereignty makes it ours and we think this journey is reprehensible.

Pegasus spyware issue

In 2017, it was claimed by The New York Times that India had bought Pegasus spyware in Israel as a part of its $2 billion defense deal. Pegasus is a joint initiative for investigative journalism. It is a phone-hacking software created by Israel’s NSO Group Technologies, which is capable of reading text messages, tracking calls, collecting passwords, location tracking, accessing the target device’s microphone and camera, and accessing information from apps. Several Indian ministers, politicians, activists, businessmen and journalists were potentially targeted by Pegasus. Responding to this, Arindam, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs said,

The alleged matter referred to is being probed by a committee constituted by the Supreme Court. There is no information available with the Ministry of External Affairs in this matter.

In connection with the visit of the Prime Minister to Israel in 2017, MoUs were signed, the details of which are publicly available,” he said.

hijab controversy

The hijab controversy took place in Karnataka in February of 2022. The controversy erupted when some junior college Muslim girls were forbidden to wear the hijab in their classes as it was against the college’s uniform policy. Students wearing saffron shawls led the counter-protest against allowing hijab-wearing students to enter the college. Many international social activists and people of Pakistan commented on this controversy without knowing full details about the issue. Regarding the controversy, US Ambassador Rashad Hussain tweeted,

Religious freedom includes the ability to choose one’s religious dress. The Indian state of Karnataka should not determine whether religious clothing is allowed. The ban on the hijab in schools violates religious freedom and stigmatizes and marginalizes women and girls. ,

To put an end to such comments, Arindam took to Twitter and responded by saying,

Motivated comments on our internal issues are not welcome.”

OIC request to United Nations

In relation to the hijab controversy, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conveyed its message to the United Nations and the Human Rights Council to take “necessary measures” to protect Muslim students.

The OIC General Secretariat once again urges India to ensure the safety, security and well-being of the Muslim community while protecting the way of life of its members and bring to justice the perpetrators and perpetrators of violence and hate crimes against them. Is. OIC said.

When asked about the statement made by OIC a day earlier in a press meeting, the spokesperson replied,

In India issues are considered and resolved according to our constitutional framework and machinery as well as democratic ethos and politics. The communal mindset of the OIC Secretariat does not allow a proper appreciation of these realities,” Arindam said.

The OIC continues to be hijacked by vested interests to further their nefarious propaganda against India,” he said.
