Arpinder Singh is an Indian triple jumper. He represented India in many prestigious world arenas like Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. On the eve of National Sports Day 2018, he presented the beautiful gift of gold medal in triple jump to the Indian people after 48 years.
Birth and early life
Arpinder Singh was born on 30 December 1992 in Harsh Chhina, a village in Amritsar, Punjab, to Jagbir Singh and Harmeet Kaur. His father was in the army and always wanted him to become an athlete, he made his parents proud by making a name for himself in track and field at national and international level.
He completed his schooling from a sports school in Jalandhar. In 2006, Arpinder cleared the Jalandhar Sports School exam and jumped just over 11 metres. Although he was not selected, he refused to give up. He studied hard and the following year he entered the school with a result of 11.85 m.

career
Arpinder jumped 13.86m in the Under-17 School Games and won the silver medal. He then tried his hand at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Ludhiana, where he was selected, but only as a one-day grant. He was not getting the scholarship and all the financial expenses were going on in his mind.
In June 2014, Arpinder broke his previous record of 16.84 m with a jump of 17.17 m at the 2014 National Inter-State Championships in Lucknow. In doing so, he broke the national record previously set by Ranjit Maheshwari and also qualified for his sport in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where he won a bronze medal. In 2016, Maheshwari broke this record again.
On 29 August 2018, she won the gold medal in the triple jump at the 18th Asian Games. He covered a distance of 16.77 meters to win the gold medal. He has become the second Indian athlete to reach this milestone. Before him was Mohinder Singh Gill, who won a gold medal in the triple jump at the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok.
