Some Lesser Known Facts About Ashoka
- Ashokan was an Indian film producer who worked primarily in the Malayalam film industry. He has more than 130 Malayalam movies in his account. On 26 September 2022, he passed away in Kochi, India and was suffering from several health problems. During his last days, he was living in Singapore and returned to India and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kochi.
- Soon after completing his formal education, Ashokan ventured into the Malayalam film industry as an assistant director to late filmmaker J.J. Helped Sasikumar. In the late 1980s, he began directing Malayalam films under his own banner and made his directorial debut in 1989 with the film Varnam, starring Jayaram, Ranjini and Suresh Gopi.
- In the early 1990s, he directed a few films such as Sandharam (1990), Mookila Rajyathu (1991), and Acharya (1993). These films brought him immense commercial popularity and critical success. According to Ashokan, he directed most of his films in collaboration with Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi.
- In 1990, the film Sandram was co-directed by him with Thaha. Suresh Gopi and Parvati were in the lead roles in this film. The film revolves around Suresh Gopi and a newly wed couple Parvati, whose honeymoon was ruined by a dangerous man.
- Later, he directed a telefilm titled Kanappurangal. The film won him the prestigious Kerala State Film Award for Best Director.
- Thereafter, he retired from the Malayalam film industry as a film producer and founded a software company in India especially in the Gulf and Kochi and managed the affairs of this company with his family members from Singapore.

- Ashokan is best remembered for the Malayalam film Mukkila Rajyathu, which was released in 1991 and is considered one of the best comedy films of Malayalam cinema.
