Chetan did his B.Com from Mithibai College of Arts, Chauhan Institute of Science and Amritben Jeevanlal College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai from 1990 to 1995. In 2002, he went to the club alone because his friends were busy, there he met a girl named Lavinia. In an interview, Chetan talked about meeting him for the first time, he said,
In the club I saw an old friend of mine. Lavinia was with that friend. I spoke to him and Lavinia too and we all got along like a house of fire. After sometime a girl came to me and said hello. And suddenly Lavinia told me to go and hang out with her. I was a little taken aback by his reaction. But somehow it was the first sign that she really liked me. ,
I used to play cricket then and Sunday was no exception. After the game I got tired of the dog and went home. Suddenly I got a call from him and realized that I had easily forgotten about dinner plans. I apologized and we went on our first date.”
During an interview, he said that he was not financially strong at that time, so he made a ring out of aluminum foil and proposed Lavinia for marriage. he adds,
Lavinia met an old friend and started talking. I found myself very jealous. I realized that what I felt for him was more than friendship and that was actually our first fight. I made a ring out of silver foil and gave it to him. Tears were rolling down her cheeks and she told me it meant so much more than the real ring. ,
He married Lavinia (air hostess and athlete) on 12 December 2004. The couple is blessed with a son named Ethan. Talking about his son in an interview, Chetan said,
When a child comes into your life, you ‘lose’ your wife for the child because all her attention is on him. But in the end it is a beautiful feeling. Having a family – a loving wife and a lovely son is nothing short of eternal happiness.”

Chetan started his career at the age of 5 as a child model. He has appeared in over 200 TV commercials and print commercials, including those for Nycil, Tata Safari, Thumbs Up, Cinthol, Lakme, and Wagon R. In 1994, he participated in Gladrags. Manhunt and Megamodel Competition but could not make it to the top finals. He tried out for the competition again in 2001 and finished as second runner up.
He debuted as a child artist in the epic Hindi TV series ‘Mahabharat’ (1989), in which he played the role of young Balaram. In an interview, while talking about playing the role of young Balaram, he said,
I was 14 when I played Balaram in Mahabharat, and it was completely magical. We all used to get a lot of feedback and messages from fans through letters. I was in school and every day I used to get sacks full of letters. At the time, there was a photograph-autograph system with fan mail. So, fans used to mail me a blank envelope bearing a return stamp and sign the photograph and send it back with the letter. This was my routine. Before going to school, I would sign my photos and put them in envelopes. Every morning my father would give me a stack of envelopes with pictures to sign. It was a wonderful time and I have a lot of memories attached to the show and I am glad that I am getting to live it again on COLORS.”
After almost 12 years, he appeared in the episodic TV series ‘Ssshhhh… Koi Hai’. After this he appeared in few Hindi TV serials like ‘Kyun Hota Hai Pyaar’ (2002) and ‘Kusum’ (2003). He came into limelight with his role as Shashank (Sasha) Garg in one of the most popular Hindi TV serials ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki’ (2004).
He played a negative character in the serial which was well liked by the audience and after the serial he gets offers of dark characters in most of the TV serials. In an interview, while talking about being typecast for his roles, he said,
Being typecast in a negative role never bothered me. Of course, I’ve played some good boy roles as well. But personally I enjoy playing a bad guy on screen as this character has a lot to offer. A positive character has a day and you cannot pass it. People have accepted me in a certain genre and I am happy with it. Actually, whenever I get an offer from a bad guy, I get very excited about it. Producers have sometimes given me positive roles too but I have not been motivated to do so. I am happy to be a professional villain on TV.”

In 2006, she participated in the TV reality show ‘Fear Factor India’ as a contestant for the first time. He has participated in several other Indian TV reality shows such as ‘Nach Baliye 4’ (2008), ‘Is Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao’ (2009), ‘Welcome – Baji Mehman Nawazi Ki’ (2013), and ‘Lock Up’. 2022).
Apart from TV serials, he has also worked in many Hindi films. His first Hindi film was ‘Asambhav’ (2004) in which he played the role of Ghazi. Some of his Hindi films are ‘City of Gold’ (2010), ‘Bodyguard’ (2011), ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobara’ (2013), and ‘Shootout at Wadala’ (2013).
He has also acted in some South Indian films. In 2007, he made his debut with the Telugu film Don, in which he played the role of Anthony.
His first Tamil film is ‘Anjaan’ (2014) in which he played the character of Manoj.
He made his Malayalam debut with the film ‘Big Brother’ (2020) as Vinayaraj.
In January 2019, he started working as Lead Developer in a private company Xtrathin Design Private Limited, Mumbai and worked there for about a year. In January 2021, he joined The Happiness Room, a private firm in Goa, as an Unreal Engine trainer. In the same year, he joined the directors cake in Mumbai.
He had a fight with an Indian producer Ekta Kapoor While he was re-hired to play the character of Haider Khan in the Hindi TV serial ‘Jodha Akbar’ (2013-2015). He was re-hired with the promise of shooting 20 days a month, but as the story of the serial progressed, his role in the TV serial started decreasing. Talking about the incident in an interview, he said,
My character was not going anywhere. Associate creative head Shalu was the reason why I continued with the show after the leap. But it was all empty promises which led to nothing. Every day got humiliating to shoot, so I quit. I am a senior actor and my honesty should be respected. Shalu doesn’t know how to carve a character.”
He later tweeted,

In 2022, when he was in the online TV series ‘Locked Up’, he talked about the fight. He said,
I have realized that it was my fault and I should not have been angry at that time. Anger is my weakness and I still feel bad about it. I regret my fight with Ekta. But life teaches you with every experience. When he called me for Chandra Nandani, I was glad that he still cared about me. No one wants to live in the past, so let go of what has passed and move on. It was a calling home for me. I am having a wonderful time shooting with the cast of Chandra Nandani. We shoot round the clock and give our best to the best of our ability.”

- In an interview, she shared how she developed an interest in modelling. He said,
I saw my cousin Jugal Hansraj’s picture in a magazine and told my mother that I wanted to follow suit. So, we clicked some pictures and he sent them out, it was all his hard work. I also did 250 print media commercials, 50 TV commercials and seven-eight films. Then I did ‘Mahabharat’ after which I took a break. After a few years, I got into modeling and eventually returned to acting. ,
