On 16 May 2022, he went to Dr. Shetty’s Cosmetic Surgery Centre, Rajajinagar, Bangalore, Karnataka. After the surgery, she suffered various complications and fluid started accumulating in her lungs. His surgery was performed by anesthetist Melvin and his team of doctors. The team then took Chetna to Kade Hospital Unit, Bengaluru, Karnataka and asked the doctors there to treat Chetna like a cardiac arrest patient. She was initially given CPR at Kade Hospital, but she did not survive. In the police complaint, Dr. Sandeep, ICU intensivist of Kade Hospital said,
Chetna was declared brought dead at 6.45 pm. Doctors at Shetty’s cosmetic center knew that Chetna had already passed away.
When reporters spoke to Chetna’s father about the incident, he said,
My daughter was healthy and fit. She was absolutely fine. She went to the hospital with her friends. Someone suggested to her that she has excess fat in her waist and she came for surgery without consulting any family member. I will initiate legal action against the hospital authorities.”
Talking to reporters his mother said,
The cause of death of my daughter is Shetty Clinic. He told us that we don’t have ICU, please take him to Kede Hospital for ICU after 4 pm. They took him in at 9 in the morning, well, he didn’t tell us anything. Whenever we asked him about the surgery, he told us that it would be of 5 minutes or 30 minutes and kept dragging it. Eventually he told us it happened.”
