Shagun Batra is an Indian doctor who has secured All India Rank 1 in NEET PG 2022 exam.


Dr. Shagun Batra was born in 1999 (age 23 years; by 2022) in New Delhi. He did his schooling from Delhi Public School, RK Puram, New Delhi. She was good at studies during her school days and used to top her class 12 board exams. Meanwhile, he also attended the Goethe Institute, New Delhi, to pursue a course in the German language. After completing her schooling, she joined Delhi’s Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) to pursue MBBS, where she emerged as a gold medalist. As an MBBS student, she did an internship at Lok Nayak Hospital, Delhi. When she was in her third year of college, Shagun finished her internship and started preparing for NEET PG 2022 exam. She secured All India Rank 1 in the exam in her first attempt. In May 2022, he secured 13th rank in INI-CET. Obviously, she comes from a family without doctors. Talking about this in an interview, he said,

I come from a family without a doctor, so being the first doctor in my family was a remarkable thing in itself.

Shagun’s father works in the IT sector and his mother is a housewife. She had a brother, who died in 2019.

Dr. Shagun attended PrepLadder’s online courses to prepare himself for the exam. Shagun also attended Dr. Gobind Rai Garg’s live classes for preparation. Sharing his preparation schedule in an interview, Dr Shagun said,

I started studying for NEET PG 2022 exam in my third year of MBBS. For pre-final and final year subjects, I used to practice MCQs. I had notes for all 19 subjects ready before the start of the internship.

Dr. Batra said,

I focused on self study. I was able to manage coaching, self-study and college with proper planning and strategy. Marrow GT and National Mock helped me a lot in my preparation for NEET PG 2022 exam.

Dr. Shagun told the media that adequate sleep is a prerequisite for any examination. Sharing his exam day strategy during the conversation, he said,

Good exam practices like sleeping well before the exam, having good breakfast, reaching the exam center on time etc were my typical exam day strategy. Trust your instincts, most of the time the correct answer is the one you guessed the first time. Don’t lose hope, believe in yourself.”

Concluding his conversation, Dr. Shagun said,

Most importantly, this is just a test, don’t get disheartened if the results don’t meet your expectations. Keep in mind that your rank doesn’t define who you are.”

  • In her spare time, Dr Shagun enjoys hanging out with her friends and watching shows on OTT platforms.
  • Apart from studies, Shagun is also active in sports. He loves to play badminton.
  • During an interview, Shagun shared that she never planned to pursue a career in the medical field. He said,

    I come from a non-doctor family and being a first time doctor, I feel remarkable. I had no plans to move forward in the medical field and it was a last-minute decision.

  • In an interview, she said that she aspires to do her post graduation in MD (Medicine) from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and go for super specialization. He said,

    I really want to do my PG in medicine branch. I also qualified for INI-CET but could not stream due to low seat matrix. I am looking forward to get admission in PGI.

  • In December 2020, she secured rank 2 in GCLT MAINS exam and won a cash prize of Rs. 6000.
