Facts / Trivia

  • From childhood, he was inclined towards sports. He started practicing go-karting and badminton at the age of 8.
  • His father supported him and inspired him to pursue a career in sports. Talking about his father’s support during an interview, he said,

Isha’s first pistol cost Rs 70,000, which is what I spent on my first bike, and she would often tell me that her pistol was like my bike. When Isha showed keen interest in shooting, we used to go to Pune to attend camps while her mother Sreelatha used to manage our sports shop. Later we also got a small circle made of it at home itself. It was like driving a car garage to me after leaving rally two years ago. His three medals are the biggest gift for me.”

    He added,

As soon as I started taking the sport seriously, my father began to cut short his rallies to help me with my sport. Eventually, my father retired from rally driving to travel with me for my tournaments and help with my sport during training sessions. Growing up, I would only watch and hear bikes and cars competing with my father in various rallies. He initially tried me go-karting, but I didn’t find it exciting. But when I first went to a range, I liked the idea of shooting a pistol and my father told me it was like driving a car. Winning the senior national title is like winning a rally and I could see that adrenaline rush in my father’s eyes when I won. He stopped rallying to support me and this medal is for him.”
