Gurlal Brar (1193–2020) was an Indian gangster from Punjab, a close alliance of the gangster group ‘Lawrence Bishnoi Group’. He was involved in several cases of extortion and murder. He was shot dead on 10 October 2020 when he was partying at the Para Club in Chandigarh.

student leader

In college, he joined the student political group Students of Panjab University (SOPU). He was elected as the President of SOPU. During the 2016 student union elections, he tore the poster of the opposition party in Chandigarh’s DAV College Sector 10. He also threatened the contesting candidates.

Conflict

In 2020, he was charged under Section 354 of the IPC by the Industrial Area Police of Chandigarh for slapping his girlfriend’s female friend. Reportedly, the girls had a fight after which Gurlal slapped the girl.

On 10 October 2020, he celebrated his girlfriend’s birthday at Play Boy Club in Wave Mall, Chandigarh. After spending few hours there he went to Para Club, Centra Mall, Chandigarh. Then he got a call from his friends asking them to lend him their Fortuner car. Gurlal went to the entrance of the mall to give the car keys to his friends. While he was waiting at the gate, three motorcycles ran towards him and started firing at him. According to sources, the shooters fled after firing seven rounds. Later the local police took Gurlal to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. A day after the incident, a gangster named Davinder Bambiha took to Facebook to claim responsibility for the murder. He wrote,

It was revenge for the murder of Lavi Deora which was done by Gurlal Brar and his gang in Kot Kapoor, Punjab.

The local police registered a case against Dilpreet Singh Dhahan alias Baba, who had allegedly provided weapons for Gurlal’s murder, and the weapons were recovered from a drain in Chandigarh’s industrial area. Later, the motorcycles were also identified which were provided by gangsters Gurvinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh alias Geeta to the shooters named Neeraj Chaska and Mandeep Mandy. In 2021, the main shooter of the massacre was identified as Beant Singh. The Industrial Area Police of Chandigarh was criticized for not identifying Gurlal Brar as a wanted criminal. The murder took a new turn when on 29 May 2022 the Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was shot. On the same day Gurlal Brar’s cousin goldie braro took to Facebook to take responsibility for Sidhu’s death. Goldie wrote,

I, Sachin Bishnoi Dhattaranwali, along with Lawrence Bishnoi group, take responsibility for the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala. His name cropped up in connection with the murders of Vicky Middukheda and Gurlal Brar and yet the police did nothing.
