Pesci began appearing in New York stage productions at the age of five, and by the age of ten, he was regularly performing on Starttime Kids, a television variety show that ran from 1950 to 1955 in New York City. It used to air on WNBT (now WNBC). He began playing guitar for several pop and rock acts, most notably Joey D and the Starlitters, which led to his first feature film appearance (an uncredited one) as an extra in the 1961 musical Hey, Let’s Twist! He went solo in 1968, releasing his debut album Little Joe Sure Can Sing! as Joe Richie. However, the album was not a commercial success.
