Reid began her journalism career in 1997, when she relocated from New York and took her job at a business consulting firm in South Florida to work for WSVN Channel 7’s morning show. In 2003, he left journalism to work for the anti-war organization America Coming Together, which was fighting President George W. Bush and the Iraq War. He later worked on Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008 before returning to broadcasting as a talk radio host. From 2006 to 2007, Reid co-hosted Wake Up South Florida, a morning radio talk show broadcast from WTPS, then-Miami affiliate of Radio One. He served as the managing editor of The Grio, a political columnist for the Miami Herald, and editor of the political magazine The Read Report. Reed hosted her own MSNBC afternoon cable news program, The Reed Report, from February 2014 to February 2015. After the show was canceled on February 19, 2015, Reid was moved to a new job as MSNBC national correspondent.
Since May 2016, Reid has hosted the MSNBC political weekend morning talk show AM Joy, and has filled in on a regular basis for other MSNBC hosts such as Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow. Reed’s Saturday morning show has nearly one million weekly viewers as of 2018. Reid is the author of Fractures: Barack Obama, the Clintons, and the Racial Division, released by HarperCollins on September 8, 2015. Reid inaugurated Wake Forest University’s Anna Julia Cooper Center in 2015 with the Ida B. Wells lectured.
