Kartar Cheema made his acting debut in 2006 with the Punjabi language drama series ‘Saude Dilan De’. Thereafter, in 2007, she made her film debut with the film ‘Kaun Kis Da Belly’ directed by Jagtar Singh. The film was released on 28 December 2007, and featured a cast including Preet Brar, Jagtar Jaggi, Binnu Dhillon, BN Sharma and Surendra Sharma. In 2008, he appeared as Lailly in Gaurav Trehan’s Punjabi-language romantic comedy film ‘Husher: A Love Story’. His performance in the film earned him huge recognition for his work.

- Reportedly in May 2022, the National Students Union of India president Akshay Kumar said that he had offered Kartar Cheema a loan of Rs 25 lakh, which the actor failed to repay. He further claimed that Cheema had threatened to kill him, claiming that he would not return even a euro through mobster Goldie Brar. Kumar further claimed that while going to the gym on Mall Road, he was chased by Cheema, who pointed a gun at him, resulting in a verbal brawl.
