the director

In 2017, he directed a Hindi play, ‘Item’, produced by the 10-year-old drama company. In an interview, Kshitij shared some insights about the drama. Regarding the making of the play, he said,

“Thing It reflects how we treat women. The media through its reach and influence is changing our view of gender, gender and its power structures, setting bizarre physical standards for us to follow. We wanted to tell this story through this character Sapna Shetty (essayed by Deepti Khatsa), a less skilled dancer who is chosen as the heroine for his film by a filmmaker. She eventually becomes a superstar in the B grade film industry. Over the years, she exposes her body to performances and slowly begins to believe that she is a great actress and her fans admire her acting skills. This thing is so deep in Sapna that while returning after a setback, she declares that her return is no less than Amitabh Bachchan.

When asked about using bedding as a metaphor to represent how the industry works, he said,

The play consists of cameras, plot, story and its subtext, dim lighting, dirty props, polished chairs, men and women, all moving around the bed. It becomes the central character. In the B grade film industry, there is hardly any story and logical dialogue whose ultimate aim is to show a man and a woman in bed.”

On 27 October 2018, his play was screened at the Old World Theater Festival held at the India Habitat Center in New Delhi.
