Carr eventually rose to the position of director of the West Angeles Church of God at the Christ Choir, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with both gospel and pop musicians, including Kirk Franklin, Gladys Knight, Yolanda Adams, and Stevie Wonder.
The Kurt Singers is a gospel vocal group that Carr also founded. In 1988, he published his first EP, I’m Glad, on an independent label.
