Harris co-wrote songs with Sandy Petty, the most famous being “More Than Wonderful” (1983) and “I’ve Just Seen Jesus” (1985). Other well-known and famous songs by him include “I Miss My Time with You” (1986), which he wrote himself, and “In It After All”, written by Constant Change, aka Don Thomas. was, and appeared on their album I Can Begin Again (1989), released by Benson Records. The song reached number 1 on the radio.
A 1993 television commercial for the Points of Light Foundation led by President George HW Bush included the song “Mighty Spirit” by Harris. At the White House, he sang for Bush and Barbara. Greg Nelson and Dan Schaefer’s song “All Along the Way”, which they recorded, reached number 1 on the CCM Inspirational chart and held that position for five weeks. His 1995 release Unbelievable Love won the Inspirational Album of the Year Dove Award in 1996.
Harris has been awarded an honorary doctorate in music by Campbellsville University in central Kentucky. In 1993, he received honorary admission to the Western Kentucky University Hall of Distinguished Alumni.
