After graduating from high school, Stahl joined WHDH-TV, Boston’s parent Channel 5. She worked as an on-air reporter and producer for the channel until 1971, when she joined CBS News. She credits her job at CBS News for getting women involved in its affirmative action mandate by the Federal Communications Commission in 1972. She joined CBS News in 1974 as a correspondent. Stahl rose to prominence as a result of coverage of the Watergate scandal. She was new to CBS, but was assigned the task because the story was deemed unimportant. He covered the court appearances of those arrested for breaching the Watergate campus building. During the regimes of Presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush, Stahl became a White House correspondent on CBS.

Between 2002 and 2004, she was the host of ’48 Hours Investigates’. Since March 1991, Stahl has been a correspondent on 60 Minutes, a television news magazine broadcast on CBS. On 60 Minutes, Stahl has conducted so many interviews with some that came to the fore like October 2007 when he interviewed Nicolas Sarkozy, the then President of France. When Stahl questions Sarkozy’s relationship with his soon-to-be-separating wife, Cecilia, he opts out of the interview.
