After graduating from high school, Stahl joined WHDH-TV, Boston’s parent Channel 5. She worked as an on-air reporter and producer for the channel until 1971, when she joined CBS News. She credits her job at CBS News for getting women involved in its affirmative action mandate by the Federal Communications Commission in 1972. She joined CBS News in 1974 as a correspondent.
