Manju Bala is an Indian track and field athlete who competes in hammer throw. He finished first in hammer throw at the 2022 National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships, Chennai, after which he was named in India’s 37-member athletics contingent for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He was also selected to represent India at the 2022 Asian Games.

Manju Bala Swamy was born on Saturday, 1 July 1989.age 33 years; by 2022) in Chandgothi, Churu district, Rajasthan, India. Their zodiac sign is Cancer. Manju, who was inclined towards sports since childhood, used to play volleyball till class 9. One day, she went on a school trip to Jaisinghsar near Bikaner, where she first saw an athlete bouncing a metal ball with a chain. Manju immediately joined the game and started practicing it after returning home. Later, he was noticed by coach Rajesh Poonia, who coached him. After this Manju won bronze in School National and Gold in Junior National. She finished fourth at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Jakarta. In an interview, she recalled her father’s struggles in raising three athlete kids and said,

Our father never stopped us from choosing sports. He used to take loans from fellow villagers to help us take the game forward. He sent my brother Sandeep to practice at NIS Patiala. When Munish opted for boxing, my father used to request bus drivers passing through the village to bring gloves from Jalandhar. When I started, a hammer cost Rs 800. He used to spend extra hours at the tea stall. He used to leave home early and return late.”

After her marriage, she moved to Ladunda in Surajgarh tehsil of Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. He is an Income Tax Inspector.

Her father, Vijay Singh, runs a tea stall on the Rajgarh-Pilani road in Chandgothi. Manju’s brother, Sandeep Kumar Swamy, is deaf and dumb. He won gold medal in javelin throw at the national level for special athletes. Meanwhile, Manju’s younger sister, Munesh Bala Swamy, is a boxer and a police officer in Rajasthan.

  • Her bronze medal from the 2014 Asian Games, Incheon, was briefly changed to silver after original gold winner Zhang Wenxiu failed a doping test. However, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld his appeal, stating that his positive case was due to contaminated food, his gold medal was handed back to Zhang Wenxiu.
  • During the 2021 National Open Athletics Championships Warangal, Manju Bala broke the 19-year-old record of the meet. He surpassed Hardeep Kaur’s 2002 record of 61.67m to set a record of 64.42m. Her throw of 64.42m was recorded as the second best national record in women’s hammer throw after Sarita Romit Singh’s throw of 65.25m.
  • After marriage, she took training from her husband Ramesh Mann. In an interview, she talked about her supportive in-laws and said,

    My husband Ramesh Mann is a soldier in the Indian Army. Sometimes he trains with me at 4 am in our village Ladhundha in Jhunjhunu district. Sometimes my mother-in-law was also with us. The villagers would wonder what we were doing, making circles in the empty fields and throwing a metal ball. ,

  • She is the recipient of Maharana Pratap Award (2012-13) in the category of Athletics.
