Mohit Grewal was born in 1999 (age 22 years; by 2022) in Village Bamla, District Bhiwani, Haryana. Soon after completing his schooling, he joined the Department of Physical and Sports at Chaudhary Bansilal University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in physical education.

Early in his career, Mohit Grewal participated in All India Inter University Wrestling Championships and Khelo India Wrestling Championships and won many medals and accolades. He started taking wrestling training in the local akhadas in 2012. He then participated in the World School Championships in Turkey and won a gold medal in 2016.

In 2018, he participated in the Junior Asian Championships and won a gold medal. He did not participate in any wrestling championship in the year 2019 and 2020 due to knee injury. According to Mohit Grewal, he was suffering from mental trauma when he was getting injured. In a media interview, he said that he told about his injury. he said,

I suffered patellar tendinitis (an injury connecting the cap of the knee to the shin bone) and 70 percent of my ligament was damaged.

In 2021, he competed in the Senior National Championship, and defeated his rival from Haryana to reach the final. However, he lost the final match of the championship to Shivraj of Maharashtra. Prior to this, he was the recipient of a gold medal at the U-23 National Championships and a bronze medalist in the play-offs at the U-23 World Championships. In 2021, he participated in the U-23 National Championship and won the gold medal. In the same year, he competed for a bronze medal in a playoff at the U-23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. He then participated in the country’s senior national championships and won a silver medal in the final.

In June 2022, he participated in the senior international tournament held in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and reached the semi-finals of the championship after defeating his rival Salim Erkan of Turkey 6–1. He lost to Kazakhstan’s Yusup Batyrmurzaev 10–0 in the semi-finals of the tournament. He won the bronze medal by defeating his Uzbek rival Sardorbek Kholmatov 8–2 in the play-off match. Mohit Grewal mentioned in a media interaction that everyone stopped talking about his controversy after winning the bronze medal in the Almaty (Kazakhstan) tournament. They said,

It (medal) silenced everyone. Before the tournament, everyone was talking about that controversy but now everything has changed.”

Conflict

In 2022, he attracted controversy during the Commonwealth Games (CWG) selection trials when he defeated Indian wrestler Satendra Malik in the final match but referee Jagbir Singh’s decision was opposed by Satendra Malik after the results were announced. As a result, a fight broke out between Satendra Malik and referee Jagbir Singh. Mohit was dragged in the viral video of the incident.
