In the late 1980s, Ranjit worked in skits and television serials for the Doordarshan channel. Ranjith made his writing debut with the Indian Malayalam-language film Oru Mayamasa Pulariyil (1987). He has written the story of the film ‘Orakkappurathu’ (1988). Some of the other films written by Ranjith include ‘Peruvannapurathe Vishengal’ (1989), ‘Pradeshika Varthakal’ (1989), ‘Pookalam Varavayi’ (1991). After writing scripts for various films, Ranjith made his directorial debut in 2001 with the film ‘Ravanprabhu’.
