controversies Arrested during Kisan Andolan (2011)
In 2011, Ravi Rana’s active participation in the farmers’ movement for better remunerative prices for raw cotton led to his arrest. Reportedly, Rana, his wife and Yuva Swabhimani Sangathan had launched a protest against the government demanding an increase in the minimum guaranteed price of raw cotton from Rs 3,300 to Rs 6,000 per quintal. While he was lodged in the Central Jail Amravati, Rana went on a hunger strike, which worsened his health. Prithviraj Chavan’s envoy and Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane tried to persuade Rana to end his fast over the telephone, but Rana refused to coordinate. Thereafter, Rana was shifted to a Government Medical College and Hospital in Nagpur.

Clash with Shiv Sena District President Dinesh Bub (2019)
After the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Ravi Rana engaged in a physical fight with Shiv Sena’s Amravati district chief Dinesh Bub while attending an event at the Madhuban old age home. Ravi alleged that Dinesh Bub had made derogatory remarks against his wife on social media and during election speeches. Finally, the police intervened and forced Dinesh Bub and his supporters to leave the ashram.

Booked for violating lockdown norms (2020)
Amid the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Ravi Rana along with five others removes barricades to reach Irwin Square, Amravati, Maharashtra to pay tribute to BR Ambedkar on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Following this, the police registered a case against Rana for violating the lockdown norms and invoked Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code against Rana.

House arrest under CrPC section 144 (2022)
On the night of 12 January 2022, Ravi Rana and his followers illegally encroached upon Amaravati’s Rajapeth flyover to install a statue of Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of the birthday of Shivaji Maharaj’s mother. As a result, Rana was placed under house arrest and a case was registered under Section 144 of CrPC. Later, the workers of Rana’s Yuva Swabhiman Party burnt the effigy of Amravati Municipal Commissioner Praveen Ashtikar in front of Rana’s house.

Accused of attempt to murder (2022)
In 2022, Ravi Rana was booked for attempt to murder when some women workers of Rana’s Yuva Swabhiman Party attacked Amravati Municipal Commissioner Dr Praveen Ashtikar by spraying ink. The incident happened after the statue of Shivaji Maharaj was removed from Amravati’s Rajapeth flyover. Reportedly, the idol was being installed without obtaining the formal permission of the MC; Hence it was removed. Ravi Rana refuted the allegations, claiming that he was not present at the time of the incident.

Arrested in Hanuman Chalisa row (2022)
Independent MLA Ravi Rana and his MP wife on 23 April 2022, Navneet RanaHe was arrested after he called for chanting Hanuman Chalisa outside ‘Matoshree’, the private residence of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai. Later, the Mumbai Police charged the politician couple with sedition, and the Rana couple were sent to judicial custody for 14 days. On 4 May 2022, the City Civil and Sessions Court granted bail to Navneet Kaur Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana on a surety of Rs. 50,000 in connection with the Hanuman Chalisa controversy; The court also directed the couple not to speak to the media about the matter.
