Rishabh Rajendra Pant is an Indian cricketer. He plays as a middle-order wicket-keeper batsman for India. He also captains Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Rishabh served as the vice-captain during the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In 2022, he received the Test Batting Award by ESPNcricinfo Awards for helping Team India break Australia’s unbeaten record at the Gabba.
Birth and early life
Rishabh Pant was born on 4 October 1997 in Roorkee, Uttarakhand to Shri Rajendra Pant and Saroj Pant. His father passed away in the year 2017 due to cardiac arrest. From the age of 12, he was into cricket as he accompanied his mother to Delhi on weekends to train with Tarak Sinha at the Sonnet Cricket Academy.
To play U13 and U-15 cricket, his coach advised Pant to transfer to Rajasthan, but it was unsuccessful. To improve as a batsman, his mentor asked him to change every aspect of his batting style. His pivotal moment came while representing Delhi in Under-19 cricket against Assam. Pant scored the highest 35 in his first innings and then 150 in the second.

career
Rishabh made his Ranji Trophy debut in the year 2015-16. Playing against Maharashtra, he was the third youngest Indian to score a triple century in first-class cricket, scoring 308 runs in an innings. On 8 November 2016, in Delhi’s match against Jharkhand, Rishabh scored the fastest century in the Ranji Trophy in just 48 balls.
He was selected as the captain of Delhi for the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in February 2017. He replaces Gautam Gambhir, who coached Delhi in the final of the previous season. According to Delhi coach Bhaskar Pillai, Rishabh’s preparation for the match was decided by consensus.
Rishabh made his debut for India in the year 2017 and became a part of India’s Twenty20 International squad for their series against England. He was the youngest player to debut in a T20 match at the age of just 19.
In 2022, he became the vice-captain of the Indian team for the India series of the tour of South Africa. But he was given the captain’s title a day before the match as KL Rahul was ruled out of the series due to injury. He became the youngest player to lead India in a T20 match. He also scored a century in the final match of India’s tour of England.
