Rohika Chagla’s grandfather, Mahommadali Karim Chagla (popularly known as MC Chagla), was an Indian freedom fighter who served in the Jawaharlal Nehru cabinet. MC Chagla served as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court from 1947 to 1958. He was also a member of the Muslim League. However, he distanced himself from the League after its leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah began fighting for a separate Muslim state. In 1985, a statue of his grandfather was unveiled and placed outside the Chief Justice’s Court in the Bombay High Court. The inscription on the idol reads,
