In April 2022, Shailbala Martin got engaged to senior journalist Rakesh Pathak. She is one year younger than Rakesh Pathak, a father of two daughters. His first wife died of blood cancer in 2015. Shailbala and Rakesh fell in love during a news debate in 2020. She was impressed by Rakesh’s intelligence. Soon after the news debate show, they started seeing each other frequently. In April 2022, they got engaged and decided to get married. Rakesh Pathak announced his engagement with Shailbala Martin in one of his Facebook posts. She wrote,
We are friends for the last two years and during this period it was realized that we both share the same views. We often met during news debates. Now, we have decided to live together and hence we are going to get married soon. Apart from serving as a senior IAS officer, Shailbala occasionally writes.
