Shridhar Dubey, also known as Shri Dhar Dubey or Sridhar Dubey, was born in Banaras (now Varanasi), Uttar Pradesh. His parents are residents of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, he did his schooling at BSNV Inter College, (Intermediate) and Ramadhin Singh Inter College (High School). In school, he liked to study Hindi and Sanskrit subjects. He then graduated in commerce from Shri Jai Narayan Mishra Post Graduate (KKC) College, Lucknow. While studying in college, Dubey actively participated in NCC and NSS camps, later, he left NCC as he could not develop interest in it. As a part of the National Service Scheme, he participated in various street plays. In 2001, he did an acting workshop for a month at the drama school Bharatendu Natya Academy. Thereafter he performed in various theater plays. In an interview, he shared how he started performing in plays. They said,
I studied in Ramadhin Singh Inter College, KKC, KKV and Lucknow University. I obtained NCC C-cert because I wanted to join the army but could not. During a Republic Day camp, I was impressed by Neeraj, a talented cadet, and he suggested that I should join theatre. So, I reached Bharatendu Natya Akademi (2001) for a workshop and it changed my life.
