He started his career in India by joining the board of Lakme Limited in 1961. With her hard work and dedication, she became the Managing Director of Lakme in 1964. After working for 18 years, she finally became the chairman of the board in 1982. His efforts made Lakme India’s leading cosmetic company. After proving his mettle at Lakme, he was also appointed as the Director of Tata Industries Limited, the largest private sector conglomerate in Asia. He led the group which has more than ninety companies in different sectors. In 1996, he sold it to Hindustan Lever Limited. After that, she founded another company, Trent, which runs a department store known as Westside. They started Westside in 1998 with a single store in Bangalore and now the brand has over 200 outlets in major cities of India and has created over 22 labels in-house. Apart from her contribution to Tata’s business activities, she has also been associated with social organizations and started philanthropic work. She also served as the President of the Sir Ratan Tata Institute after her husband, Naval Tata.
