In 2004, Shriya made her debut in Malayalam cinema with the film ‘Black’, in which she played the role of Anandam. In an interview, Shriya expressed her views on working in a Malayalam film and said,

When the offer came, all I could say was Wow! Acting in a film with Mammootty was the highest point of my career. The director of the film Ranjit told me that I have to play a glamorous village girl without makeup. I asked why me. I was that girl who screamed in English on television and wore weird clothes! Ranjit replied, ‘Because you have a very Dravidian face’. I gave everything to the film. I cried when I had to. without glycerin. ,

In the same year, she played the role of Shireen Kolhatkar in the English film ’19 Revolution’ directed by Chicago-based director Sridhar Reddy. In 2005, her second Malayalam film ‘Bharat Chandran IPS’ was released in which she played the role of Hema.

In 2006, she appeared in four films; Amma Chepindi as Razia (Telugu), Oral as Isha (Malayalam), Thimiru as Ishwari (Tamil) and Veyil as Pandiyammal (Tamil). Later, she appeared in some Tamil films such as Pallikudam in Jhansi (2007), Annam Vengadam as Kancheevaram, Sila Samayangilil as Deepa (2018), and Andava Kanom as Shanti (2020).

In an interview, while talking about her career as a VJ, Shriya said,

I ventured into VJing at the age of 18 with SS Music, which was considered the MTV of Chennai. I was one of the first set of VJs recruited by the channel. I never had a traditional look or sound. But I got selected. It was a very interesting stint and unlike today’s major and proper shows, I considered the studio my home and used to be myself when interacting with the audience. It made me quite popular among the audience, especially the youth, in no time.

  • Initially, Sreeya Reddy’s parents were not happy with their daughter’s decision to act in films. In an interview, he recalled signing for his first film and said,

    I signed the contract while my father was sleeping. He got very angry knowing this. But now she is very proud of me. My first Telugu film Appudu Appadu did not do well. Due to the hatred of my acting in my father’s films, I did not work for a year. ,

  • Being the daughter of a former Test cricketer, Sreeya Reddy has always been an active player since her school days.

    As a kid, I was very interested in sports and was an athlete by 16. I used to represent the school at the state level. If I were a boy, I would play cricket. I love the game so much that I would skip a movie to watch it.

    After Kancheevaram, which garnered me a lot of praise, I got married and stopped acting. Although the decision to quit acting was not a deliberate decision, I never got any exciting offers. And after doing films that had author backed roles, I can’t settle for less films. After marriage, people were very afraid to approach Vikram and Vishal and often got negative reply ‘Madam is not available’ from some frivolous people roaming in our office.

    I am a fitness fanatic and my life is dedicated to fitness. Would you believe I walked 20 minutes the day I gave birth to my daughter Amalia? I got back in shape in just 3 months. I can also give fitness regime to my six pack brother-in-law Vishal. My daughter is just two and a half years old and her daily routine is fixed with school and other classes six days a week. I am extremely proud and love to have a beautiful home. I am also an art connoisseur.”
