Surekha moved to Mumbai in the 70s to pursue a career in the film industry. He got his first successful role in the 1978 film Kissa Kursi Ka, in which he worked with famous actors like Shabana Azmi, Utpal Dutt, Rehana Sultan and Manohar Singh.
