Tannishtha Chatterjee is an Indian actress and director. She is best known for playing the role of Nazneen Ahmed in the British drama film Brick Lane. Tannishtha has acted in several films including Shadow of Time, Stings – Bound by Faith, White Elephant, Bombay Summer, Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid, Dekh Indian Circus, Bhopal: Prayer for Rain, and Unposed. He also won the National Film Award for his performance in Dekh Indian Circus in the year 2012.
Birth and early life
Tannishtha Chatterjee was born on 23 November 1980 in Pune, Maharashtra in a Bengali Hindu family. His father was a business executive and his mother was a political science professor. He did his schooling from Bluebells School International and did his Masters in Chemistry from Delhi University. She is an alumnus of the National School of Drama.

Tannishtha started her acting career in the year 2003 with the film Swaraj. She was later featured in the film Bas Yun Hi in 2004 as Sona. In the same year, he starred in the critically acclaimed film Hawa Aane De, directed by Partho Sen-Gupta. Mona with Aniket Vishwasrao, Nishikant Kamat and Rajshree Thakur. She gained instant fame through film and got the opportunity to play the role of Masha in the film Shadow of Time, which led her to visit international film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival.
In 2007, Tannishtha played the lead role of Nazneen Ahmed in the 2007 film Brick Lane, which earned her a nomination for the British Independent Film Awards in the Best Actress category, alongside actresses Judi Dench and Anne Hathaway. She was later a part of various films like White Elephant, Bombay Summer, Dekh Indian Circus, Gulab Gang, Parched, Doctor Rakhmabai etc.
