career
Qureshi started his career with the formation of his world music group Surya in 1986–87. He has appeared as a performer on the albums Global Drum Project, Remember Shakti, Masters of Percussion and Summit. Qureshi plays a range of percussion instruments such as djembe, tambourine, bongos and batzone. He is the first artist to have created a unique rhythmic vocabulary to fit tabla syllables into the African drum called djembe.
