Birth and early life
Tillotama Shome was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. Since his father was an Indian Air Force officer, he had to emigrate all over India. He has a younger brother Gaurav Shome in the family. Shome completed her studies from Lady Shri Ram College. She then moved to New York in 2004 to pursue a master’s degree in Educational Theater at New York University, where she remained until she returned to Mumbai in February 2008.

Shome made her film debut in 2001 with director Mira Nair’s love film Monsoon Wedding, in which she played the role of Alice. The film also starred Naseeruddin Shah and Lillete Dubey.
In 2009, Schom starred as a nun in Claire McCarthy’s Australian film The Waiting City. He played a social worker in Italo Spinelli’s social awareness film Gangor, which was based on the novel by Mahasweta Devi. In 2012, Shome appeared as Rani in Kaushik Mukherjee’s Bengali film Tasher Desh. Later she appeared in several movies including Shadow of Time, Turning 30, Shanghai, Budhia Singh – Born to Run etc.
