Daly is best recognized for playing Detective Mary Beth Lacey in Cagney & Lacey, which won her four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. His most notable roles include; Alice Henderson at Christie’s from 1994–95, for which she won an Emmy in 1996, and Maxine Gray in judging an Emmy from 1999–2005, which won her her sixth Emmy in 2003.
Daly also appeared in Wings which is produced by his brother in 1991. She played Maxine Gray, a social worker, in the CBS drama Judging Amy. The show ran from 1999 to 2005. In 2003, Daly appeared in Lifetime’s film Undercover Christmas as Anne Cunningham. She joined the cast of the Murphy Brown series in 2018.
Daly began his stage career at Summer Stock in New York. His first performance was in 1967 in the play That Summer – That Fall. Her theater credits include The Seagull, Rabbit Hole, Mothers and Sons. She played Maria Callas in the play Master Class on both Broadway and London’s West End.,
In 1988, she appeared in the Dolly Parton TV show Dolly. She was able to do a duet with Dolly. This led to Daly getting the lead role of Rose in the musical Gypsy. The role earned her the 1990 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance. She plays Sally Adams in City Center Encore! , and Madame Arkadina in The Seagull.
In 2008, Daly played Me, Myself, and Mom in New Jersey at the McCarter Theater in New Jersey. In addition, he performed a cabaret for the second time at Feinstein in the Loews Regency in New York City in 2010. He also performed at Feinstein last year.
