Vishwa Deendayalan was a talented Indian table tennis player who made a name for the nation by winning many national and international level competitions. He was a top-class under-19 table tennis player in India. He died on 17 April 2022, when his taxi, in which he was in; A 12 wheeler truck collided with 3 other players in Ri-Bhoi district of Shillong, Meghalaya.


Vishwa Deendayalan was born in 2003.age 18 years; at the time of death) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. After completing his schooling at Jayagopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya HSS, he joined Loyola College, Chennai. There, he studied for the first year of his graduation while pursuing B.Com.

As a young boy, Vishwa Deendayalan had shown a keen interest in the field of table tennis, as a result of which, his father admitted him to the Krishnaswamy Table Tennis Club in Chennai. During his initial phase of training, Vishwas was intensively trained by two famous faces in the world of table tennis, Ramnath Prasad and Jai Prabhu Ram. As the world’s prowess in table tennis grew, he became a member of the famous Tamizaga Table Tennis Association (TTTA) state men’s team. At Worlds 2019, he arrived in the pre-quarters at the Hyderabad Nationals with his mixed doubles partner Selena Deepti. As a part of the Tamizga Table Tennis Association (TTTA) state men’s team, Vishwa was selected for the 83rd Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships in Shillong. The selection for the Shillong team for the world was not that easy, as they had to beat another ace player Malesh Kumar in the selection matches.

Vishwas was an outstanding player, owing to his skills, he was selected to be part of the Indian team which would represent the nation at the Under-19 World Table Tennis Youth Contenders in Linz, Austria. The international tournament was to begin on 27 April 2022.

On 17 April 2022, Vishwa Deendayalan was on his way from Guwahati airport to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships. He was traveling in a taxi with three other players; When the taxi collided with a 12 wheeler truck on National Highway-6. With the help of locals, the debutant was immediately taken to a local civil hospital in Nongpoh, where he was declared brought dead on arrival.

M. Nityashree, a TTTA lady paddler, said in an interview,

The entire team of TTTA (Men and Women) left Guwahati airport in three different cars at around 12.30-1245 pm on Sunday. When our car reached the spot, we saw our coach Jai Prabhu Ram and some local people rescuing our paddlers from the accident site. There were no marks of injury on Vishwa. We shouted and shouted his name hoping he would open his eyes, but there was no response from his side. Then a medical student or doctor also tried to do CPR. He was then soon taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
